How Do I Start A Workout Program?

March 6, 2019

When I started my business back in 1999 I wanted to help athletes achieve excellence through functional training exercises. My passion over the years progressed into me purchasing Boot camp.   The philosophy behind training athletes is to break their movements down and get them strong in ways that are safe and effective to achieve their goals.  I took the knowledge of the athlete training and started to instill those philosophies with our non-athlete clients.

The hardest thing to do is to start a training program no matter what age you are.  There are different anxieties that you may have, maybe not feeling comfortable in a health club setting.  Maybe not feeling comfortable with your coordination and ability to do some of the movements.

Here are a few things to keep in mind.  No matter how old you are you can do anything if you put your mind to it and if you work yourself up to it.

So when starting that training program you need to take some gradual steps.  Set goals for yourself, where you want to be in a few months, etc. Find out what you can do and know your limits.  If you are able to do movements with great form and you are breathing comfortably and there is no pain then you can do it.  Just because you are 50 or 60 + years old does not mean you can’t do what a 20 year old is doing.

I train a 67 year old that I would put up against any 20 year old.

Don’t fall victim to “I am too old” or “It’s too late”.  It is never too late for your health and wellness.  Working out is something that anyone can do.  You don’t need fancy equipment or big gyms, for that matter you don’t need anything!.    Excuses are a lot easier to come up with than doing a workout for “YOURSELF” .

With all this being said everyone has different levels and abilities.  That is why it is important if you join a gym, boot camp etc.. you are being guided in the right manner by that trainer.

For example at my gym/boot camp we modify movements according to peoples personal abilities.

Taking part in a fitness program especially as we get into our 50’s and 60’s is very beneficial.  We want our bones and muscles to stay strong to avoid injury and other health issues.  Exercise is the answer to a lot of everyday health issues.

It's easy to start; your first move is to get up off the chair!
